Komodo Island
Komodo Island is the most-visited attraction of Flores. This is a totally awesome for adventurer to see Komodo Dragons that are now no longer kept in an enclosure but free to roam and hunt for food anywhere they please. When you do trekking on this island, the experienced and well trained park rangers will take you on a hike through the bush lands of Komodo Island for the experience of a lifetime.
Padar Island
Padar is small island located between Komodo and Rinca Island. It belongs to Komodo archipelago, administrated under the West Manggarai Regency East Nusa Tenggara Indonesia. It is the third largest island part of Komodo National Park. The topography of the island is rugged, with steep mountains and hills set against deep bays.
Padar Island has dry climate, with only bushes and grassland vegetation covering the island, mostly savannah-covered hills, surreal landscape fringed by bright green-capped mountains of fairy-tale shapes. The sea surrounding the island has several sites popular for scuba diving and snorkeling. This island also has four deep bays with beaches in different colors, most of them are white sands, while some beaches has grey and pink sands. It is a rare combination, a quirk of this unique island.
Unlike neighboring islands of Komodo and Rinca that are teeming with the ferocious lizards, on Padar Island, the Komodo dragon is extinct. Visitors can do a 30 minute hike to Padar’s summit to see a panoramic view of the island, go trekking for around an hour. The best time is from April to June, and from September to November. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, good hiking shoes, a hat, plenty of water and get ready for some serious 30-foot exercise uphill.
PINK BEACH
Pink beach is beach is just one of the many amazing features of Komodo Island that make it truly a Natural Wonder of Nature. This exceptional beach gets its striking color from broken red pigment of the coral reefs.
MANTA RAY POINT
Manta Ray Point Komodo placed between the islands of Komodo Island and Rinca within the Komodo National Park. It is a dive site rich with bottom based plankton making it an alluring spot – attracting dozens of manta Ray for feeding and cleaning. You can expect to drop down just ten meters or so to find a sandy bottom not heavy with coral but blessed with excellence visibility for most of the year an a reasonable current to nourish the nutrient rich arena for the Manta Ray
KANAWA ISLAND
Kanawa Island is only 15 miles from fisherman town Labuan Bajo on Flores Island. It is fringed with the bed of coral reefs teeming with colorful fish all around. Its turquoise water is exceptionally calm and clear. Swimming and snorkeling are most popular activities here. Dive down the sea from the jetty you can meet schools of fish that cloud the stilts.
Rinca Island
Rinca Island is one of the main islands of Komodo National Park. Famous for some of the world’s best dive sites and their popular inhabitant – the Komodo dragon – the area attracts thousands of tourists each year. Rinca Island is one of the most visited place too in Komodohttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Komodo_National_Park National Park, even though it is smaller than Komodo Island where the Komodo dragons can also be found. This island is a good alternative to crowded Komodo Island and takes only 2,5 hours from Labuan Bajo.
Despite the invasion of tourists, you can still find some quiet and remote areas on Rinca Island. The islands’ interiors consist mostly of dry forests, where you can also encounter other animals than the Komodo dragon: water buffaloes, birds, pigs, and deer. The islands also offer unique beaches and good options for trekking.
Trekking on Rinca Island
Trekking on Rinca Island starts from the ticket office at Loh Buaya. You also have the option to choose between three trails. The shortest trek takes 30 minutes. It is an easy, shaded walk that passes an artificial waterhole before ascending to a small hill with a view over the bay. The one-hour medium trek winds between dragon nests and out into the sunshine across an exposed savannah that is studded with lontar palms. For the best opportunity to see dragons and their prey, choose the two-hour trek past a permanent waterhole and across steep, exposed slopes that offer breathtaking views.
